Maya S Krishnan was born and raised in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. She attended TVS Lakshmi Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Madurai for her primary and secondary studies before moving to Bangalore to study engineering at Amrita University School of Engineering. She was an avid sports champion in school and participated in gymnastics as a child, finishing sixth in the Nationals. Swagatha S Krishnan, her sister, is a singer and performer who mostly works in the Tamil music industry and is a well-known social media star.
