Mohanlal was born in Elanthoor, Kerala, India on May 21, 1960. He is an actor, producer, playback singer, and distributor from India. He has primarily worked in Malayalam films throughout his career, appearing in over 340 films.
He appeared in the 1978 film Thiranottam Malayalmam as a teenager, but the film was delayed for 25 years due to censorship issues.
He is a good actor who can play both the hero and the villain, as evidenced by his first debut film, Manjil Virinja Pookkal, released in 1980. Aside from that, he also played a supporting role in which he gave his all to each character.
He primarily works in the Malayalam industry, but he has also worked in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada.
In his career, he has received five national awards, including a Special Jury Mention, a Special Jury Award, and an award for Best Feature Film as a producer. He has also received nine Kerala State Film Awards, Filmfare Awards South, and numerous other honour.Â
He was also awarded the Padma Shri in 2001 and the Padma Bhushan in 2019. In 2009, he became the first actor to be awarded the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army. He also received honorary doctorates from Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit in 2010 and Calicut University in 2018.
